Bandits have imposed an ₦8 million levy on the residents of Kaya village in Zamfara State as a retaliatory measure following the recent killing of a notorious bandit commander, Isuhu Buzu.
According to sources, the threat was issued on Tuesday, leaving the community in a state of fear.
Buzu was killed during a joint operation conducted by the Zamfara State Community Protection Guard and the Civilian Joint Task Force.
Residents of Kaya have denied any involvement in the operation that led to the commander’s death, describing the levy as an act of collective punishment against innocent civilians.
Community leaders are now appealing to the state government and security agencies for urgent intervention and increased security patrols to prevent violent reprisals.
