The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has declared the suspension of its Kano State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, as invalid and without effect.
Dungurawa was reportedly suspended on Monday by some NNPP executive members in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, over allegations of fomenting division and internal discord within the party.
Following the development, the NNPP Kano State executive committee on Tuesday announced the appointment of Abdullahi Abiya as acting chairman of the party in the state.
However, the NNPP national leadership has strongly rejected the move. In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the NWC described the purported suspension as “misplaced, undemocratic, null and void, and entirely without effect.”

The party said the action constituted a serious breach of party discipline and amounted to gross anti-party conduct, noting that it violated the provisions of the NNPP constitution.
Johnson emphasised that the individuals behind the suspension lacked the authority to take such action, describing them as “questionable executive members” whose conduct undermined internal party democracy.
The NWC also defended Dungurawa, describing him as a dedicated, diligent, and responsible chairman whose leadership and performance have significantly contributed to the growth and stability of the party in Kano State.
According to the statement, “The National Working Committee of the NNPP condemns in the strongest terms the purported suspension of the Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa. Such action is an illegality and remains null, void and of no effect whatsoever.”
The party reaffirmed its confidence in Dungurawa’s leadership and urged members to adhere strictly to the party’s constitution and established disciplinary procedures to avoid further internal crisis.
