Terrorists launched an overnight attack on the Faruruwa community in Kano State, killing a Nigerian soldier and a civilian and stealing a large number of cattle.

The assailants stormed the community in the Shanono Local Government Area late Thursday night, with the assault lasting for several hours into the early morning of Friday, January 2.

According to a security monitoring platform, the attackers operated unchallenged for a significant period, highlighting ongoing security vulnerabilities in the region.

This incident is the latest in a pattern of violence to hit northern Nigeria, where armed groups frequently carry out killings, abductions, and cattle rustling.

This is not the first time Faruruwa has been targeted; in November 2025, bandits attacked the same community, abducting five women, four of whom were nursing mothers. While two of those women later returned, three remained in captivity.

As of Friday, Kano State authorities had not yet issued an official statement regarding the latest attack.
