Controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has claimed he was warned by security sources in Abuja that he has been marked for elimination as a Boko Haram figure.
Speaking to his congregation, Gumi said he received a phone call from an unidentified source who informed him that his name was mentioned during a national security meeting and that he could be targeted in an American airstrike.
The cleric went on to blame the United States for the emergence of the Boko Haram insurgency and accused Nigerian political and religious leaders of remaining silent while foreign-backed narratives create division and hardship in the country.
He warned that this climate of fear and inaction is dragging Nigeria downward.
