Gunmen have attacked a police border patrol checkpoint in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, less than 48 hours after a deadly market massacre in the same region.
The attack occurred late Sunday night when assailants, reportedly on motorcycles, stormed the security post in New Kalli village.
According to police and local sources, the officers on duty engaged the gunmen in a fierce gun battle and successfully repelled them.
During the exchange, a fire engulfed the security post, destroying the officers’ living quarters and some personal belongings.
While no casualties were reported in the checkpoint raid, the incident has intensified fear among residents still grieving the Kasuwar Daji market attack, where dozens were killed and many more abducted .
