Citing the harsh economic realities and persistent inflation facing Nigerian workers, the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has urgently called on the government to review workers’ salaries and allowances.
In a statement, the union argued that the current cost of living has severely eroded workers’ purchasing power, and an immediate enhancement of allowances is needed as a temporary relief measure.
The TUC stressed that workers should not be made to shoulder the burden of economic reforms without adequate support, proposing this review as a stopgap ahead of the full implementation of a new National Minimum Wage scheduled for 2027.
This demand comes as Nigeria’s other major labor federation, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has also called for an urgent wage review, signaling a unified push from organized labor for government action.
