The Badagry Kingdom is in mourning following the passing of its revered paramount ruler, His Royal Majesty De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I.

The monarch, who reigned for nearly five decades, was a central figure in the history and development of the ancient town.

Born in 1936, the Akran was a former journalist who ascended the throne of his ancestors on April 23, 1977. Throughout his long and peaceful reign, he was a symbol of unity and a respected voice for the Ogu people.

As the Permanent Vice-Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, his wisdom and leadership were influential across the state.

He was widely regarded as a great lover of his people who brought peace and encouraged community development throughout the Badagry area.

Tributes are expected to pour in from across the nation for the monarch, who was celebrated for his dedication to his people and his enduring legacy.
