Former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami is facing a new investigation from the Department of State Services (DSS) after arms and ammunition were reportedly discovered at his residence in Kebbi State.
The weapons were found by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during a search connected to a separate money laundering case, and the matter was then handed over to the DSS as it falls under their jurisdiction.
Although Malami was granted bail last week in the N8.7 billion money laundering case, he remains in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre for failing to meet the bail conditions.
Some sources suggest he is intentionally delaying his release to avoid being immediately re-arrested by DSS operatives, who have reportedly surrounded the prison.
This new probe is in addition to the EFCC’s ongoing investigation and a recent court order for the temporary forfeiture of 57 assets linked to Malami, valued at over N213 billion.
