Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as ‘Portable,’ has been arraigned and remanded in custody by a Federal High Court in Ogun State.
He faces a nine-count charge including assault, car theft, and obstructing police duties, stemming from a New Year’s Day incident at his bar.
The prosecution alleges that Portable, along with his associates, assaulted his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, and several police officers, and also stole a Mercedes-Benz valued at N12 million.
During the court proceedings on Monday, the presiding judge declined the singer’s bail application, citing the need to first hear testimony from a female police inspector who was allegedly assaulted during the incident. Consequently, Portable will remain in custody until the case is reheard on January 19.
