Their combined influence in goals, assists, leadership and decisive moments has played a major role in shaping the competition so far.

The last-four fixtures will see Senegal take on Egypt, while hosts Morocco face Nigeria, with individual brilliance expected to be just as influential as collective team effort.

Nigeria’s run to the semi-finals has been led by Victor Osimhen, the reigning African Player of the Year. The striker has been a constant threat throughout the tournament, scoring four goals and providing two assists to rank among the top performers. His pace, strength and movement have unsettled defences, while his impact in the knockout rounds has reinforced his reputation as a decisive player on the big stage.

Alongside Osimhen, Ademola Lookman has emerged as Nigeria’s creative spark. The 2024 African Player of the Year has recorded three goals and four assists, offering both flair and efficiency across the frontline. His ability to stretch play, create chances and deliver in key moments has made the Super Eagles one of the most balanced attacking sides left in the competition.

For Egypt, Mohamed Salah has once again delivered on the continental stage. The former African Player of the Year has contributed four goals and one assist, playing a central role in guiding the Pharaohs through a tense knockout phase. Beyond his numbers, Salah’s leadership and composure have been vital as Egypt aim for a record-extending eighth AFCON title.

Senegal’s challenge has been anchored by the experience of Sadio Mané. The two-time African Player of the Year has registered one goal and three assists, but his influence has extended beyond direct contributions. Mané’s work rate, movement and ability to draw defenders have helped create opportunities for teammates as Senegal pursue another continental crown.

Hosts Morocco have been boosted by the return of their captain, Achraf Hakimi. After concerns over an early injury, the newly crowned African Player of the Year has reasserted his importance, providing one assist from right-back and helping marshal a defence that has kept several clean sheets. His leadership and energy have been key to Morocco’s semi-final push.

With five African Player of the Year winners shaping the narrative, AFCON 2025 enters its semi-final stage as a celebration of elite talent and continental excellence. Their collective impact has not only driven their teams forward but has also elevated the quality and global profile of Africa’s premier football tournament.
