Seven people were killed and three others wounded in a mass shooting in Marikana, a township outside Cape Town, South Africa, early Saturday morning.
The victims included one woman and six men aged 30 to 50. Police believe the attack is linked to extortion in the area and have launched a manhunt for the gunmen.
The shooting occurred shortly after midnight in the Cape Flats area, known for gang violence, where over 2,000 murders were recorded in the first nine months of 2025.
This incident adds to South Africa’s growing concerns over violent crime, with an average of 63 people killed daily between July and September last year.
