The burial plans for Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, have been cancelled due to internal family issues. Akinnaanu passed away on January 12, 2026, after a prolonged battle with a severe leg ailment.
Initially, a multi-day schedule had been planned, including a service of songs, candlelight procession, and tribute night, but these arrangements have now been formally called off.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Lanre Alewilese, a colleague of the late singer, announced that the burial planning committee made the decision due to an “internal crisis” within Akinnaanu’s family.
The family will communicate a new date for the burial at a later time. Akinnaanu, who began singing at age 10, rose to prominence with her hit song “Omije Ojumi” and left a lasting impact on Nigerian Christians.
