The Janazah (funeral prayer) of the late Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Saliu, has been postponed to Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
Sheikh Saliu, who was 75, passed away today, January 19, 2026, after a life dedicated to Islamic scholarship and service.
Born in 1950 in Ilorin, Kwara State, Sheikh Saliu was appointed the 12th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate in 1983 and served for over four decades, promoting peace, unity, and religious tolerance.
He was widely respected for his profound knowledge of Islamic teachings and steadfast leadership in religious affairs.
The Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, expressed deep sorrow over Sheikh Saliu’s demise, praising his intelligence, honesty, dedication, tolerance, and wisdom. The Emir also announced that the Janazah would be held at the Palace Square of the Emir of Ilorin.
