Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed to 26th place in the latest FIFA World Rankings, a significant rise of 12 positions following their impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The Super Eagles moved up from 38th after finishing third at the tournament, where they recorded six wins from seven matches. Their only setback came in the semi-finals, where they lost on penalties to eventual hosts Morocco.
Under the guidance of head coach Eric Chelle, Nigeria responded strongly by defeating Egypt 4–2 on penalties in the third-place playoff, underlining the team’s resilience and growing confidence.

Nigeria also recorded the highest points increase in the latest rankings, gaining 79.09 points.
At the top of the global rankings, Spain retained first place, followed by Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium and Germany.
On the African continent, Morocco remain the highest-ranked side, ahead of Senegal, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tunisia, DR Congo and Mali.
The Super Eagles’ rise in the rankings highlights their progress and reinforces their status as one of Africa’s leading football nations.
