The Ogun State Government has dismissed reports alleging a confrontation between Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Council of Afobajes over the selection process for the Awujale of Ijebu.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the government described the claims as false, misleading and the handiwork of mischief makers.

Akinmade explained that Governor Abiodun recently held a consultative meeting with the Council of Afobajes, similar to previous engagements with the Olori Ebis, which helped resolve divisions and promote unity among traditional stakeholders. He noted that through such consultations, the governor had previously persuaded one of the kingmakers to withdraw a pending court case.

According to the statement, discussions at the meeting focused solely on issues of mutual interest aimed at strengthening harmony and progress in traditional affairs within Ijebuland.

“Contrary to the rumours making the rounds, the governor neither issued threats nor ultimatums. Statements attributed to him, including the claim of ‘No Kuye, No Awujale,’ are entirely fabricated and have no connection whatsoever with Governor Abiodun or his administration,” Akinmade said.

He added that no member of the Council of Afobajes could confirm such an incident, stressing that it never occurred.

The statement further reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to due process, respect for the autonomy of traditional institutions, and a transparent and fair selection process for the next Awujale of Ijebu.

“The governor has consistently demonstrated deep respect for the Awujale stool. Members of the public, traditional stakeholders and the media are urged to ignore these unfounded allegations and rely only on verified information from official sources,” the statement concluded.
