Nigerian forward Salim Fago Lawal has joined Czech First Division side Viktoria Plzen on a three-and-a-half-year contract, moving from Croatian club NK Istra.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a productive spell at Istra, registering 15 goals and two assists.
“I know Viktoria primarily from their performances in European competitions, where the club has consistently achieved great results. This offer really interested me, and I see it as a step forward in my career,” Lawal told the club’s official website.

He added, “Given that I was with the national team at the African Nations Cup, I feel well prepared and ready to be fully available to the coaches immediately. I am looking forward to my first training session and to getting to know my new teammates.”
Viktoria Plzen sporting director Martin Vozábal welcomed the signing, noting that Lawal will add competition to the team’s attacking options.

“After Rafiu Durosinmi left, we wanted to strengthen our offense, which is being fulfilled by the arrival of Salim Fago Lawal,” Vozábal said. “We had been tracking him in the Croatian league. He is a speedy player who can operate both as a striker and on the wing. We are glad the transfer is complete and can count on him for the league opener this weekend.”
