Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has been thrown into mourning following the death of his mother, Mrs Sarah Chukwueze.
The news was first made public by his brother, David Chukwueze, who took to Instagram to share emotional tributes, expressing the family’s deep pain over the loss. In one post, he wrote, “Can’t even post your picture to say RIP mum,” while another read, “My forever love just left me without saying goodbye.” He also lamented that she did not live to carry her grandchild.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) later confirmed the passing in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that Mrs Chukwueze died after a brief illness.
“The National Sports Commission is deeply saddened by the confirmed passing of Mrs Sarah Chukwueze, mother of Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze,” the statement said, adding that the family had publicly announced her death.

The Commission extended its condolences to Chukwueze and his family, describing Mrs Chukwueze as a strong pillar of support in her son’s football career.
“Across Nigerian sport, the role of family remains central to the character and resilience of our elite athletes. Mrs Chukwueze’s influence on her son’s personal journey and professional development is acknowledged and respected by the sports community,” the NSC stated.
It also pledged solidarity with the Super Eagles forward during the period of mourning.
Details of her illness were not disclosed, and Chukwueze is yet to issue a personal statement on the loss.
The sad development comes just days after Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi lost his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a road accident in Delta State.
