Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas showed solidarity with midfielder Wilfred Ndidi after their 2-1 victory over Konyaspor on Saturday.

Ndidi, 29, lost his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a car accident in Umunede, Delta State, just days earlier. The tragedy came shortly before his Super Eagles teammate, Samuel Chukwueze, also lost his mother following a brief illness.

Despite the personal loss, Ndidi played 68 minutes for Besiktas at the Tupras Stadium, demonstrating remarkable professionalism and dedication.

Following the match, Besiktas honoured the Nigerian defensive midfielder with a thoughtful tribute. A message commemorating Ndidi’s late father was displayed on the stadium projector, prompting an emotional response from the player.
Ndidi has received an outpouring of support from across football and beyond, including condolences from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and several of his teammates, who have all expressed their sympathies.

The gesture by Besiktas highlighted the club’s empathy and respect, offering Ndidi comfort during a difficult period while he continues to focus on his career in Turkey.
