A drone attack by paramilitary forces on a health centre in Kadugli, a city in southern Sudan, killed eight civilians, including three children, on Tuesday, according to a medical source.

The attack occurred just hours after the Sudanese army announced it had broken a long-running siege of the city imposed by rival paramilitaries.

An army source told AFP that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched the drone strikes on the city. The source said Sudanese air defences intercepted and destroyed all but one of the drones used in the attack.

The incident underscores the continued volatility in the region despite the army’s recent military gains.
