The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has suspended its nationwide strike, which lasted for 84 days, effective immediately.
The decision was made at an emergency meeting of the union’s national executive council in Abuja, following a conciliation meeting with the federal government on Thursday.
According to a communique issued by JOHESU, the strike has been suspended to allow for the implementation of the terms of settlement agreed upon with the federal government.
The union had been on strike since November 14, 2025, citing the government’s failure to implement the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and address longstanding welfare and systemic issues affecting health workers.
The prolonged strike had taken a toll on patients, with many forced to seek costly alternatives in private facilities.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) had issued a 14-day ultimatum, threatening to join the strike if the government failed to resolve the issues.
