China and Nigeria have marked a significant milestone in their diplomatic relations, celebrating 55 years of friendship and cooperation.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi exchanged congratulations with Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, highlighting the unwavering support and mutual trust between the two nations.
Since establishing diplomatic ties in 1971, China and Nigeria have consistently worked together, deepening political mutual trust and yielding fruitful results in various fields, including trade, investment, finance, industry, infrastructure, and people-to-people exchanges.
The elevation of their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2024 has further strengthened their cooperation.
Key areas of cooperation include:
- Infrastructure Development: China has contributed to Nigeria’s infrastructure growth, with projects like the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Gas Pipeline, and Nigerian Railway Modernization Project.
- Agriculture: The National Integrated Poultry Project, a $1 billion initiative, aims to boost food security, create jobs, and support local farmers.
- Education and Knowledge Exchange: Scholarships, joint research, and industrial parks promote technology transfer and skills development.
Both countries are committed to further strengthening their partnership, exploring new areas of cooperation, and promoting mutual benefits.
As Tuggar noted, Nigeria regards China as an important strategic partner, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
