The Lagos State Government has announced a partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway for four weeks to allow the Federal Ministry of Works to rehabilitate failed sections of the road.
The closure will begin on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and end on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated in a release on the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation’s X handle.

The rehabilitation will cover the stretch from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate, affecting both inbound and outbound lanes of the expressway.
To minimise disruption, the project will be carried out in two phases:
- Phase One (February 11 – March 4): This phase will affect Abeokuta-bound traffic. Vehicles from Lagos/Abule-Egba toward Sango Tollgate will be diverted to one half of the carriageway, about 20 metres from the active work zone. Rehabilitation will be done one lane at a time, with traffic shifted to completed sections as work progresses. Lagos-bound traffic will flow normally during this period.
- Phase Two (March 4 – March 11): This phase targets Lagos-bound traffic, covering the stretch from Obadeyi Bus Stop to Ekoro Junction. Traffic from Sango Tollgate toward Lagos/Abule-Egba will be diverted to one half of the road, while Abeokuta-bound vehicles maintain uninterrupted movement. Work will continue in halves, with traffic restored to completed sections as rehabilitation progresses.
Osiyemi assured motorists that adequate traffic management measures would be in place throughout the project. He advised road users to plan their journeys, follow traffic signs, and cooperate with officials, while appealing for patience during the essential repairs.

The partial closure is part of ongoing infrastructure interventions on major federal highways in the region aimed at improving road safety and driving conditions.
