In a major development for global agricultural policy, Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has been elected Chairman of the 49th Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

The announcement was made during the council’s session, where Minister Kyari expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged to lead discussions on pressing issues affecting rural development worldwide.
The theme of the 49th annual meeting is “From Farm to Market: Investing in Young Entrepreneurs”, focusing on strategies to support rural youth in agricultural innovation and improving access to markets.

Minister Kyari’s election highlights Nigeria’s growing influence in international agricultural forums and reflects the country’s commitment to advancing rural development and youth empowerment in the sector.
