The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into an incident involving an ambulance during the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon held on Saturday.

According to the statement, the ambulance, which was deployed as part of the event’s official medical emergency response, was conveying athletes who had earlier required medical attention when a female non-athlete within the event arena came into contact with the vehicle.

Officials at the scene immediately alerted the ambulance crew to stop. Emergency responders assessed the woman on the spot before transferring her to a public health facility for further evaluation.

Authorities said she sustained bruises and complained of chest pains but was stabilised at the scene, with her vital signs confirmed to be stable. She is currently receiving medical care and is said to be responding positively to treatment.

The statement added that the Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Sports Commission are closely monitoring the situation, while senior government officials have visited the hospital.

The government assured the public that a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway.

Earlier, a viral video circulating online showed the moment the ambulance struck the individual during the race, raising concern among spectators and participants.
