Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing national unity and development priorities as reasons for his decision.

In a state broadcast, Fintiri announced that he has moved with all his cabinet members, appointees, and elected local government chairmen.

The defection comes after the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Wesley Bathiya, and 14 other lawmakers resigned from the PDP, citing internal divisions within the party.

The move is seen as a strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Fintiri’s administration emphasizing the need for stronger alignment with the Federal Government to advance development priorities.

The APC has welcomed the defectors, with party officials expressing confidence that Fintiri’s move would boost their chances in the 2027 elections.

However, some within the party have expressed concerns over the potential effect on internal dynamics and the distribution of power.
