The Ondo State Police Command has directed churches, mosques, and other places of worship to suspend night services and vigils due to rising security concerns.
The directive follows the abduction of six members of the Celestial Church of Christ in Uso, Owo Local Government Area, during a midnight service on February 25, 2026.
The police commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, cited difficulties in monitoring nighttime activities and urged religious leaders to inform authorities of any planned events to ensure safety.
The abducted worshippers, including pregnant women and a physically challenged person, are being held for a N100 million ransom.
The suspension affects Islamic night prayers, Christian vigils, and traditional nocturnal rites across the state.
