President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday requested the Senate to screen and confirm Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, succeeding Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite.

Tinubu also asked the upper chamber to confirm former Rivers South-East senator Magnus Abe as chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The requests were conveyed in separate letters read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. In his letter, the President highlighted Oyedele’s qualifications and experience, noting his role as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led initiatives to reform Nigeria’s tax system. Oyedele, 50, is an economist, accountant, and public policy expert, with 22 years at PwC, rising to Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

The letter on Abe’s confirmation followed the resignation of Gbenga Komolafe as NUPRC chairman. The President also submitted for Senate approval two non-executive commissioners, Paul Yaro Jezhi, former Trade Union Congress chairman in Kaduna State, and Sunday Adebayo Babalola, former deputy director at the defunct Department of Petroleum Resources.

Akpabio referred all nominations to the Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream for further legislative review.
