The Nigeria Police Force has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who is seeking ₦1 billion in compensation over the raid of his residence by law enforcement agents. El-Rufai had approached the court seeking damages against the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), the Chief Magistrate Court of the Federal Capital Territory, the Inspector General of Police, and the Attorney-General of the Federation.
The police defended the operation, accusing El-Rufai of attempting to use the suit as a shield to frustrate investigation and possible prosecution. The court has adjourned the matter until March 25 for hearing ¹ ².
