Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has dismissed a federal high court judgment barring him from seeking another term in office, calling it “premature and unnecessary”.
Aiyedatiwa stated that he has never expressed interest in contesting another governorship election in the state and is focused on delivering on his current mandate.
The governor made this statement during a live interview on Channels Television, saying many social media narratives had misrepresented the situation.
He emphasized that there is no timetable for another governorship election in the state and he hasn’t begun considering another contest.
Aiyedatiwa said he would consult his lawyers before deciding on the next step, adding that the judicial process allows for further interpretation at the court of appeal and the supreme court.
The case could become a reference point for constitutional interpretation.
