The Nigerian Army has arrested a suspected spy linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Kanama, Yobe State.
Malam Fantami, a native of Dikwa, was apprehended during a joint security operation by troops of the 159 Battalion and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
According to sources, Fantami was intercepted following intelligence suggesting he was working as an informant for ISWAP-affiliated terrorists.
Items recovered from him include a mobile phone, smartwatch, prayer beads, motorcycle key, and N7,000 cash.
A preliminary examination of his phone revealed suspicious materials, including photographs of motorcycles, large sums of cash, and AK-47 rifles.
The suspect is currently in military custody, undergoing interrogation to determine his alleged involvement with terrorist networks and identify possible collaborators.
This arrest is part of ongoing counter-terrorism operations aimed at dismantling ISWAP’s intelligence and logistics networks in the north-east.
