The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced a new consumer credit scheme, “Fly Now, Pay Later,” to make domestic air travel more affordable for Nigerians.

The initiative was announced on Tuesday by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, which said the product allows eligible customers to book local flights and pay for them over time through structured financing.

According to the agency, the scheme is aimed at removing the upfront cost barrier that often prevents many Nigerians from making important trips within the country.

CREDICORP disclosed that the programme is being implemented in partnership with MyVisaro and Alert Microfinance Bank as part of efforts to expand access to responsible consumer credit.

Interested individuals are required to apply through the Visaro platform by booking flights to destinations across Nigeria.

The corporation said the initiative aligns with its broader goal of promoting financial inclusion and improving access to essential services through innovative credit solutions.

The move comes amid rising concerns over the increasing cost of domestic air travel in Nigeria, which has made flying less accessible for many citizens.

During the 2025 festive period, airfares on some domestic routes surged by about 150 per cent, with one-way tickets exceeding ₦300,000.

Airlines have attributed the spike in ticket prices to factors such as high aviation fuel costs, foreign exchange challenges, and other operational expenses.
