Following the non-sighting of the Shawwal moon in Nigeria, tonight, Wednesday, 18th, 2027, as declared by His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Sa’ad Abubakar, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Engr Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, has directed all Muslims in Lagos State and its environs to follow suit by completing the month of Ramadan as 30 days.
Consequently, Friday, 20th of March will be observed as the 1st of Shawwal, 1447AH.
All Imams are hereby advised to observe the Eid prayers (Salatul Eid) at their respective Eid grounds on Friday in line with the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The Lagos Central Mosque will hold its Eid prayers at Ribadu Road, South West, Ikoyi, Lagos, by 10am. Muslims in Lagos Island and its environs are enjoined to join in the prayers.
As Muslims celebrate, they are urged to do so in moderation, remember their neighbours, and offer prayers for Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
The Chief Imam also prayed that Allah accepts all acts of worship and supplications, grants long life with sound iman, and bestows all the good things of this world and the hereafter.
