Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has stated that the organization does not treat any country more favorably than others, following the CAF Appeals Board’s decision to award the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title to Morocco.
The decision overturned Senegal’s 1-0 on-field victory over Morocco in the final played in Rabat on January 18.
Motsepe emphasized the independence of CAF’s judicial bodies, highlighting the divergence between the Disciplinary Board and the Appeals Board’s decisions on the AFCON final.
He noted that every nation in Africa has the right to pursue appeals and advance their interests, and CAF will respect the decision taken.
The Senegalese FA has filed an urgent appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), while the Senegalese government has called for an independent international investigation into alleged corruption within CAF over the ruling.
