The federal government is making progress on a proposed $20 billion Trans-Sahara gas pipeline (TSGP) project, aimed at delivering Nigeria’s natural gas to European markets.
The 4,128 km pipeline will transport up to 30 billion cubic meters of gas annually from Nigeria, through Niger and Algeria, to Europe.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, described the project as “transformative” and “timely,” saying Nigeria is ready for investors to take advantage of its natural gas reserves.
The project is expected to boost energy security, create sustainable economic benefits, and redefine Nigeria’s role in the global energy market.
The TSGP is being advanced by a consortium of global industry players and will undergo extensive technical, commercial, and regulatory processes. Nigeria is also exploring alternative routes, including the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, which will traverse 13 West African countries and Morocco before reaching Europe.
