The resignation requirement is pursuant to Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries.

Affected officials must submit their formal resignation letters through the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and hand over their duties to Permanent Secretaries or senior career officers.

This move follows similar instructions from President Bola Tinubu and other governors, emphasizing that government positions should not be used as campaign platforms.
