Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna for arraignment over alleged money laundering and conversion of public property.
El-Rufai is being charged alongside Joel Adoga by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Security around the court has been beefed up with police and civil defence corps operatives patrolling the grounds.
El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since February 19, after being released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He had previously refused to respond to ICPC investigators, citing his right to remain silent.
The ICPC has filed two charges against El-Rufai: one at the Federal High Court and another at the Kaduna State High Court, alleging abuse of office, fraud, and money laundering.
El-Rufai’s family and some stakeholders have called for his release or arraignment, describing his detention as a violation of constitutional rights.
