Eagle Square is already a hive of activity ahead of the 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress scheduled to begin on Friday, March 27.

The venue has been decorated in the party’s colours, with flags hoisted and designated pavilions arranged for delegates from across the states. Areas for voting have also been set up in preparation for the exercise.

Security has been tightened around the location, with personnel from the police, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps deployed to maintain order.

Members of the Convention Venue Committee, led by Dapo Abiodun, were seen inspecting facilities to ensure readiness.

Major roads around the venue have been barricaded, with traffic diverted, forcing many commuters in the Federal Capital Territory to trek to their destinations.

More than 8,000 delegates from across the country are expected at the convention, alongside Bola Tinubu, state governors, and cabinet members.

The party has indicated it will adopt a consensus approach in selecting its leaders, describing the move as a demonstration of unity and internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.

Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, said preparations were on track and urged stakeholders to ensure a smooth and successful convention, describing the gathering as a key step in strengthening the party’s internal democracy.
