Rabiu Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), met with Rauf Aregbesola, national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in Abuja on Thursday.
The meeting is seen as a step towards a possible alliance between the two parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso confirmed the meeting, saying it was a “pleasure to receive my dear friend” Aregbesola at his Abuja residence.
The Kwankwasiyya movement had hinted at discussions with ADC and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over possible realignment.
Aregbesola, a former interior minister, is a key figure in southwestern politics, and his meeting with Kwankwaso is seen as a bid to bridge the north-south divide.
Analysts say the meeting could mark the beginning of structured negotiations towards a coalition that may reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
