The trial of former Minister of Power, Olu Agunloye, over the alleged $6 billion Mambilla Hydropower Project contract has been adjourned until April 20, 2026.
Agunloye is facing an amended seven-count charge bordering on official corruption and fraudulent award of the contract to Sunrise Power Transmission Company Limited.
During Monday’s proceedings, the third prosecution witness, Umar Hussein Babangida, revealed that the EFCC investigation team had invited three former Attorneys-General of the Federation, Michael Aondokaa, Abubakar Malami, and Kanu Agabi, as part of its probe.
Aondokaa and Malami submitted written statements, while Agabi gave an oral account, stating he couldn’t recall the details and outcome of the Federal Executive Council meeting.
The EFCC alleges that Agunloye awarded the contract without proper approval, violating due process and triggering international arbitration disputes.
The Mambilla project has been plagued by allegations of corruption and contractual disputes for over two decades.
