A fresh attack has shaken Plateau State, killing one person, just hours after President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state capital, Jos.
The attack, which occurred at around 6:56 a.m. on Friday, targeted the Jol community in Riyom Local Government Area, leaving 51-year-old Dalyop Betobeje dead.
This incident comes on the heels of another deadly assault in Heipang District of Bassa Local Government Area, where a secondary school student, Gloria Godwin, was killed.
Local leaders have condemned the attack, describing it as a direct affront to ongoing efforts to restore peace in the state.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) has called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of those behind the attacks.
President Tinubu had visited Plateau on Wednesday, assuring victims of violence and residents of the Federal Government’s commitment to ending the cycle of killings and restoring lasting peace.
However, the renewed violence has cast a shadow over those assurances, highlighting the urgent need for sustained and decisive security interventions in the state.
