The incident occurred early Sunday morning, targeting First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church.

The councillor representing Awon Ward, Mark Bawa, confirmed the attack, citing poor telecommunications coverage as a factor that may have allowed the assailants to carry out the assault unnoticed.

The attack has raised concerns about the vulnerability of rural communities in Kaduna State, particularly during religious gatherings.

This incident follows a similar attack in February 2026, where scores of worshippers were abducted from a church in Kurmin Wali community.
