The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its indefinite nationwide strike, with doctors set to resume work on Wednesday at 8am.
The decision follows an assurance from the federal government to reverse its decision to halt the implementation of the Professional Allowance Table (PAT) starting April 2026.
NARD had declared the strike over the government’s plan to discontinue the revised PAT, which was agreed upon after a prolonged strike in 2025.
The agreement included improved remuneration for resident doctors, covering call duty allowances, shift allowances, rural posting incentives, and non-clinical duty payments.
The association has given the federal government an ultimatum of April 21 to meet their demands, including payment of promotion arrears, salary arrears, and the 2026 medical residency training fund. If these demands are not met, NARD has warned of further strike action.
