Boko Haram’s Islamic State-backed faction has attacked a military base in Borno State, killing Brigadier-General O. Braimah and several other soldiers.
The attack occurred on Wednesday night when insurgents assaulted the Joint Task Force in Benesheikh, Kaga Local Government Area, using explosives and heavy gunfire.
Military sources report that many soldiers were injured, and some personnel are still missing.
The attack lasted several hours, with the insurgents firing sporadically at the military facility.
The Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Civilian Joint Task Force have been engaged in intense firefights with the insurgents in recent weeks.
This attack is part of a series of coordinated assaults by Boko Haram and ISWAP on military and police facilities across Borno State, aiming to destabilize forward operating positions and weaken troop morale.
In March, Boko Haram fighters attacked three military bases in Baga, Buratai, and Ajilari, near Maiduguri, demonstrating their ability to strike across multiple fronts.
The Borno State government has been working to address the security challenges, but the situation remains volatile.
The attack highlights the need for increased security measures to protect military personnel and civilians.
