The Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima on Saturday visited Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to commiserate with the Nigerian Army and the state government following the recent deadly attack on military personnel in Benisheikh.
The assault reportedly claimed the lives of several senior officers and soldiers.
Shettima was received by the Theatre Commander, Abdulsalam Abubakar, alongside other top government officials in the state.

Speaking during the visit, the Vice President conveyed the condolences of Bola Tinubu, noting that the President shares in the grief of the bereaved families.
“On behalf of the President, I wish to convey our deep, heartfelt condolences to the officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other allied forces for the lives lost. Our hearts bleed; we grieve with the families, and the nation mourns the supreme sacrifices of our gallant officers and men,” he said.
He added that despite the tragedy, there remains hope, stressing that difficult times would eventually give way to peace.

Shettima also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the armed forces, the affected families, and communities in Borno State and other parts of the country facing security challenges.
