CAF Appoints Chadian Referee For Nigeria – SouthAfrica World Cup Qualifier

Chadian official, Alhadi Allaou Mahamat will be the referee when Nigeria hosts South Africa in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo next month.

Mahamat, 38, who became an international referee 12 years ago, has officiated in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup and was a referee at the 34th Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire in January 2024.

Mahamat will be assisted by Sudanese official, Mohammed Ibrahim Abdallah (assistant referee 1), Abelmiro Dos Reis Monte Negro from São Tomé and Príncipe (assistant referee 2), and his compatriot, Pousri Armi Alfred (fourth official). The match will kick off at 8 pm Nigeria time on Friday, June 7th. Ahmed Sayed Abou Elela from Egypt will serve as the referee assessor, while Ghanaian Munkaila Nassam Adam will be the Match commissioner .

CAF has also appointed Ethiopian official, Bamlak Tessema Weyesa, 43, as the referee for the Day 4 encounter between the Super Eagles and the Cheetahs of Benin Republic at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan.

The match will commence at 4 pm Côte d’Ivoire time (5 pm Nigeria time) on Monday, June 10th 2024. A renowned figure in African refereeing, Weyesa will be supported by compatriots ,Temesgin Samuel Atango (assistant referee 1), Tigle Gizaw Belachew (assistant referee 2), and Tewodros Mitiku (fourth official). Djamel Haimoudi from Algeria will be the referee assessor, David Yameogo from Burkina Faso will serve as the commissioner, and Ivorian Claude Elloh will act as the security officer.
