Nigeria U-17 and Flamingoes Forward, Harmony Chidi was the standout performer as the women’s U-17 national team defeated Burkina Faso 6-0 on Saturday to advance in the World Cup Qualifier.

Chidi scored a hat-trick with goals in the 11th,74th and 86th minutes, Peace Effiong also scored a brace in the 34th and 89th minute with Ramota Kareem scoring in the 84th minutes as the Flamingoes secured an emphatic 7-1 aggregate victory over Burkina Faso at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Following last week’s 1-1 draw in Bamako, Mali, The Flamingoes Coach Bankole Olowookere’s team wasted no time taking the lead at home. Chidi and Effiong each scored, giving Nigeria a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Nigeria extended their dominance after the break, with Chidi heading home her second goal of the match to make it 3-0. Kareem’s brilliant effort compounded the visitors’ woes, increasing Nigeria’s lead to 4-0. Chidi completed her hat-trick four minutes from time before Effiong bagged her second goal of the encounter, as the rampant Flamingos made light work of Burkina Faso.

Nigeria has now advanced to the final qualifying round of the 2024 Women’s World Cup, where they will face either Senegal or Liberia with the overall winner qualifying for the World Cup later this year in Dominican Republic.
