Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano, AAN TV has gathered.

This reinstatement follows a resolution by the Kano State House of Assembly to dethrone the current Emir and dismantle the four new Emirates established under a controversial 2019 law.

While no official announcement has been made, reliable sources confirm that Sanusi II is reinstated and is expected to return to Kano on Friday.

The restructuring of the Kano Emirate was initially seen as a political strategy to reduce the influence of Sanusi II, a known critic of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

The creation of new emirates had fragmented the authority of the old Kano Emirate Council, thereby diluting its power.

Additionally, all district heads who were elevated or appointed under the now-repealed law are expected to return to their previous positions.

The Kano State Emirate Council Amendment Bill was deliberated and passed after its second and third readings on Thursday morning.

Deputy Speaker Alhaji Muhammad Bello Butu Butu explained that repealing the law would restore the lost glory of Kano. He argued that dividing the Kano Emirate into five had diminished the state’s statute at the national level.

Majority Leader Alhaji Lawan Hussaini Dala stated that the emirate council, a custodian of culture, had been disrupted by the creation of additional emirates.

In a statement to journalists, Dala confirmed that with the amendment, all five emirate councils were abolished, and the Commissioner for Local Governments would serve as the overseer.

Additionally, the house adopted a motion to establish a new second-class emirate council in the state.
