Funding Decline for African Startups in 2023According to a report by ‘Africa: The Big Deal’, startups across Africa raised a total of $2.9 billion in funding in 2023. This amount represents a 39% year-on-year decline compared to the $4.8 billion raised in 2022.

The report, which monitors deals announced by startups on the continent, highlighted that although there was a decline in funding, the results for African startups were better than anticipated, considering the overall funding slowdown experienced during the year.

This decline of 39% year-on-year indicates the challenging funding landscape faced by startups in the region.

In summary, African startups witnessed a decline in funding in 2023, with a total of $2.9 billion raised, representing a 39% decrease compared to the previous year. However, despite the funding slowdown, the results were relatively positive considering the circumstances.
