The Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage has officially submitted its report to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

This milestone follows the inauguration of the 37-member committee by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on January 30, 2024, in line with the Minimum Wage Act of 2019.

The committee, chaired by Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji, was tasked with the critical responsibility of recommending a new national minimum wage for both public and private sector workers across Nigeria.

After months of deliberation and assessment, the committee has concluded its assignment and handed over the report on Monday, June 10, 2024.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation expressed gratitude to the committee members for their dedication and sacrifices in completing this essential task.

He noted that a formal presentation of the report to President Tinubu will take place once the leaders of Organised Labour, along with representatives from the government and Organised Private Sector, return from the ongoing International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

The submission of this report marks a significant step towards establishing a revised minimum wage framework aimed at improving the livelihood of Nigerian workers. The government’s next steps will involve reviewing the recommendations and implementing the proposed changes to enhance economic stability and worker welfare in Nigeria.
