A rigorous search operation led by soldiers in Chikangawa Forest located the destroyed aircraft.

President Chakwera expressed his profound sorrow at a news briefing, acknowledging the completion of the search and rescue mission.

Vice-President Chilima, a prominent figure in Malawian politics since 2014 and a key player in the 2020 elections alliance, was en route to the funeral of former government minister Ralph Kasambara. Former First Lady Shanil Dzimbiri was also among the passengers.

President Chakwera lauded Dr. Chilima as a dedicated father, esteemed leader, and invaluable deputy, highlighting the significant impact of his contributions.

The remains of the victims are being transported to Lilongwe, with funeral arrangements forthcoming.

Dr. Chilima, remembered fondly by many, particularly the youth, faced and overcame legal challenges before his untimely death. He is survived by his wife and two children
